ABOUT KIM S. MACKENZIE
Kim S. MacKenzie (PhD) has used soft pastels on cotton paper for over 30 years to create a large body of highly original semi-abstract artworks (and corresponding writings) to foster 'higher' contemplation. With a life-long interest in nature, mysticism, and metaphysics, her creative radar seeks to discover, fathom and interpret the rhythmic flow of universal forces and their innate relationship with matter.
Kim's art journey has evolved through two distinct stages: a pioneering stage from 1992-2012 under her maiden name of Kim Gallagher, and a second stage from 2019-ongoing as Kim S. MacKenzie, founder of the LANTERN LANE Studio (See details below). Her return to full time art practice followed a 12 year hiatus of award-winning post-graduate study and employment in higher education, as well as 2 years hosting her own community program RiSE on Radio 4EB. The original motivation for returning to university was to pursue expertise in leveraging Internet resources for the promotion of her artwork.
Kim's early-stage artworks have been published on US and Australasian book, magazine, and CD/DVD covers, and used in the set designs of US and UK-based feature films and television series. Several series of images were licensed to an Australian greeting card manufacturer, and to a French art licensing company.
The launch of the LANTERN LANE Studio marked the beginning of a prolific new era of artwork production. Many of these images have been used to create unique 'higher art' books, including 'A Little Book of HIGHER ART' and 'COLOUR CONSCIOUSNESS A Practitioner's Guide to HIGHER ART'.
Born in Melbourne in 1963, Kim spent teenage years living in Papua New Guinea, before settling in Brisbane in 1992.
The light and colour of the Southeast Queensland region was to be the nourishing bedrock for Kim's vivid and sensitive imagination with which she seeks to inspire others.

ABOUT LANTERN LANE Studio
Founded in Brisbane AUSTRALIA in 2019 by Artist-Philosopher Kim S. MacKenzie (PhD), the LANTERN LANE Studio promotes the practice of 'higher art' through the example of her own original artwork, 'higher art' practitioner books, 'higher art' workshops, and online seminars.
'Higher art' is "defined as 'creative impulse received from within', and has for its goal to communicate deep meaning through a visual art medium, so as to foster 'inner' contemplation. It attempts to portray a quality, a value, or a principle, that resonates with the highest 'interior' aspects of human existence." (Extract from 'A Little Book of HIGHER ART').
As a spiritual practice, 'higher art' promotes an inward orientation that facilitates inner self discovery and personal empowerment. It does this through the combination of a non-denominational colour meditation method and explorative art process, as outlined in her book 'COLOUR CONSCIOUSNESS A Practitioner's Guide to HIGHER ART'.
