The HERITAGE STAR Project MAWANELLA Sri Lanka, December 2016
A full day creative art and music workshop event took place on December 15 (2016) for the local village children of Mawanella, Sri Lanka. Titled the HERITAGE STAR Project, the unique event was hosted at the home of Mr Lalith Weerasinghe, and faciliated/sponsored by Dr Kim S. MacKenzie and Mr William MacKenzie from Australia.
A total of 18 children participated in the 'INSPIRATIONAL ART' workshop using pastels and paper backpacked over from Australia. The ages of the children ranged from 8-12 years, representing Christian, Buddhist, Moslem, and other faiths.
The event was officially 'opened' with a Buddhist Blessing Ceremony and the Sri Lankan and Australian flags were raised.
The art workshop was followed with an afternoon of singing traditional village songs accompanied by renowned local musicians.
The children's artworks were photographed and visually enhanced to produce the beautiful range of 'HERITAGE STAR Project Art Cards' as a social enterprise product.
The cards were promoted throughout Australia to raise education funds for the village. Over AU$1000 was raised and sent back to the families to foster hope through cottage art initiatives in Sri Lanka.
Stock is still available of these beautiful set of cards at only AU$30 (free postage in Australia). 10 different designs in each set, which come in a vinyl pouch. Cards are blank inside, come with envelope and sealed in a cello bag. The name of the artist and their age are on the back of each card. Text 0400748815 to order.
